As we wrapped up June, along with our 2022-2023 fiscal year, we are shocked by the total number of meals we delivered. Mama’s Kitchen home delivered a record-breaking 816,920 medically tailored meals – a 22% increase over the prior year.

While this number may not seem surprising to all our amazing volunteers who help us deliver all across the county each delivery day, a fun fact that may surprise you is that Mama’s Kitchen is San Diego’s single largest provider of home-delivered meals!

And while the Hunger Coalition reports that San Diego’s hunger rates have fortunately receded to pre-pandemic rates, we continue to see sky-rocketing need from the critically ill population. The long-term impacts of the pandemic have resulted in rising rates of chronic illness, and we are now receiving close to 400 new referrals each month.
