Mama’s Kitchen’s Board of Directors is thrilled to announce and welcome the organization’s incoming Chief Executive Officer, Eva Matthews, MPH.

Eva joins Mama’s Kitchen with 27 years of public health, non-profit, and research experience having worked in public health and medical research at Yale University, the University of Arizona, Family Health Centers of San Diego, and the Laura Rodriguez Research Institute.

The Board and leadership team are thrilled to welcome Eva as Mama’s Kitchen’s new CEO as we enter our 34th year of providing a crucial nutrition intervention for our critically ill neighbors. Eva’s appointment is the result of a thorough five-month search for Mama’s Kitchen’s next Chief Executive Officer following long-time leader Alberto Cortés announcing his retirement after 21 dedicated years with the organization.

In her most recent role as Director of Grants Management at Family Health Centers of San Diego, Eva’s leadership fostered the department’s unparalleled success and nearly doubled grant funding, reaching over $74 million. She also held a leadership role in launching the Laura Rodriguez Research Institute in 2019 and has served as the Institute’s Executive Director, supporting millions of dollars in grant awards to grow a robust and successful team.

Eva’s depth of experience in community health and strategic planning has made it clear that she will lead the future growth of Mama’s Kitchen with the confidence and inspiring vision we need. Our Board of Directors couldn’t be more excited that our national search for the next CEO of Mama’s Kitchen has resulted in the best, most qualified person for the job.

We welcome Eva with open arms and express our deepest gratitude to Alberto for his decades of dedication to our mission and impact. Alberto’s last day with the organization will be January 26; please join us in thanking him and wishing him a relaxing and enjoyable retirement.
