Nancy and Sandy are two close friends with a bond that has spanned half a century. They first met in Tierrasanta, a neighborhood in San Diego, California, and have been inseparable ever since.
Nancy, a retired educator, spent her career shaping young minds as a kindergarten teacher and then went on to serve as a high school administrator and principal for 13 years. Sandy, on the other hand, co-founded a nonprofit called Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD) and served as its Executive Director for 25 years.
But their friendship took on a new dimension in March 2022 when they decided to volunteer together for Mama’s Kitchen. They adopted the Tuesday delivery route to Oceanside and became known for their weekly visits, delivering meals, and spreading joy to their clients. The two friends loved their volunteer work and found that it made their bond even stronger. They felt grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their clients and loved learning about their interests and personalities.
Nancy and Sandy’s experience as Mama’s Kitchen volunteers was nothing short of a journey of self-discovery. They discovered a newfound appreciation for the simple things in life and felt grateful for the opportunity to give back. For anyone considering becoming a Mama’s Kitchen volunteer, Nancy, and Sandy would highly encourage it. They said that it was a wonderful experience that gave them the opportunity to spend time with someone they love and make a difference in the lives of others.
