On October 28th, our CEO Alberto Cortés was honored by The North County Philanthropy Council for their dedication to our mission and vision. Alberto had the honor of accepting the “Spirit of Carol Sigelman Award” for showing his prowess in the nonprofit sector for 32 years! In the last two years alone, Alberto’s leadership has helped increase the number of beneficiaries served by 48 percent and meals delivered by 62 percent.

As a tribute to the life and work of Carol Sigelman, former NCPC board member and friend, The Spirit of Carol Sigelman Award is presented to a development professional in North San Diego County who exemplifies the passion, integrity, wisdom, and humor that Carol brought to all of us, both personally and professionally.

Her motto was “Get the job done – and done well.”

In its inception, Mama’s Kitchen focused on supporting San Diegans in need during the AIDS epidemic. Now, through Alberto’s guidance over the last two decades, the organization has expanded to provide nutritional support to San Diego residents at risk of malnutrition due to critical illnesses such as HIV, cancer, congestive heart failure, type 2 diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.

With the immense support of volunteers, businesses, and community supporters, Mama’s Kitchen strives to help its clients stay healthy, preserve their dignity, and keep their families together by providing medically tailored home-delivered meals, along with pantry services and nutrition education at no cost. There is no doubt that thousands of individuals and families in North County and throughout San Diego have received nutrition at a critical time in their health journey thanks to Alberto’s leadership.
