Mama’s Kitchen CEO Alberto Cortés has been named one of the Top 50 Latino Leaders of Influence 2022 by the San Diego Business Journal and the San Diego County Imperial Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He was honored with this outstanding accolade during a ceremony held at The University Club in San Diego on October 11, 2022.
Alberto has been in the nonprofit sector for over 32 years, but for the last 20 years, Mama’s Kitchen has been lucky to have him leading our movement.
Alberto’s recognition comes from his proven ability to scale Mama’s Kitchen by serving a staggering 662,000 meals within the last year.
While a record-breaking number of meals on its own, he has also managed to achieve this during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“Cortés helped provide guidance and leadership that supported emergency response efforts to keep some of San Diego County’s most vulnerable populations healthy and safe.” – San Diego Business Journal
But Alberto’s leadership does not stop at Mama’s Kitchen. He has also:
- Served as the Chair for the California Food Is Medicine Coalition to share San Diego’s success and expertise in executing medically tailored meals.
- Served as a member of the national advisory council for the Food Is Medicine Coalition to progress awareness of the impact and benefit of nutrition intervention for critically ill populations.
- Contributed to the updating of the bylaws for the HIV Planning Group and the prioritization of services in San Diego County.
- Completed 9th year as a coach to San Diego nonprofit executive directors and leadership members through Fieldstone.
For these reasons, Mama’s Kitchen is excited to celebrate Alberto as a Latino Leader. We have seen him in action for the last 20 years and welcome the recognition for his hard work. Here’s to Alberto Cortés!
