Mama’s Kitchen is excited to invite La Jolla Country Day School families to join us in changing lives!

We are a nonprofit organization that home-delivers specialized, medically tailored meals to individuals and families facing critical illness. When individuals are too sick to prepare meals or shop for themselves, Mama’s Kitchen and our volunteers step in to care for them.

This year, Mama’s Kitchen will deliver more than 950,000 meals to 3,000 community members affected by critical illness such as HIV, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and kidney disease. Reaching all these people all across the county is only possible with the help of volunteers like you!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
As a meal delivery volunteer, you will help us deliver half a week’s worth of meals and snacks to anywhere from 8 – 20 critically ill individuals. Once you load the delivery bags into your vehicle, you will use the provided route sheet to locate each client’s home for delivery. You can select your preferred neighborhood or region for delivery and each route takes between 1 -2 hours. You might even get to deliver a birthday cupcake and card on a client’s birthday, but with every bag, you will be delivering joy, reassurance, and life.

  • Meal delivery occurs every Tuesday and Friday
  • There are two delivery windows: 12pm – 3pm and 3pm – 6pm
  • Volunteers must complete an annual background check (paid for by Mama’s Kitchen).
  • Volunteers will need to use their own vehicles for deliveries

NEXT STEPS:
STEP 1: Complete a Volunteer Sign-Up Form prior to orientation (an application is required for everyone who will be participating in volunteer activities, including minors). 
STEP 2: Attend an orientation at your earliest convenience; both in-person and virtual opportunities are available. Click here to view orientation days and times.
STEP 3: You’ll be added to our volunteer system and will receive emails regarding available shifts with instructions on how to sign up.
